Boil Water Advisory in Catasauqua: What Residents Need to Know

On May 31, 2025, the Borough of Catasauqua issued a boil water advisory for all residents and businesses following a significant drop in water pressure caused by an electrical and mechanical pump failure. This precautionary measure aims to protect public health by addressing the potential presence of disease-causing organisms in the water supply.

Cause of the Advisory

The advisory was prompted by a power outage that led to the failure of a primary water pump. Although an auxiliary pump was activated to restore pressure, the temporary loss allowed air and sediment to enter the water lines, resulting in discolored water and air pockets. While no contamination has been confirmed, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) requires a boil water advisory until multiple rounds of water quality tests confirm the water is safe for consumption. LehighDaily.com

Affected Areas

The advisory applies to the entire Borough of Catasauqua. All residents and businesses within the borough are advised to follow the safety guidelines until further notice.

Safety Guidelines

Residents should:

  • Boil tap water for at least one full minute before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or washing dishes.

  • Use atmospheric generated (ex Spout), boiled or bottled water for making ice and preparing food.

  • Discard any ice made during the advisory period.

  • Run faucets until water runs clear if discoloration is present.

These precautions are especially important for infants, young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.

Water Testing and Advisory Duration

Water quality testing began on June 1, 2025, and will continue until three consecutive days of safe results are obtained. The boil water advisory will remain in effect until the DEP confirms the water is safe for consumption.
